It’s been a minute since the Ref Show stole the show and was the main story of an NBA game. And I don’t mean 'been a minute' in the slang way like it’s been a long time... I mean it literally. It’s been like ten seconds since it happened. It’s happened over and over again this season. And it happened again last night in New York.

Nobody bought tickets to a Ref Show in New York City last night, they showed up to see the Knicks play the Pistons. And they got a crazy game with a crazy ending. Made even crazier by, you guessed it, the Ref Show

Although the Knicks and Pistons definitely did their part to make the ending of this game PRETTY WHACK . Check out this crunch time sequence that ultimately led to the Knicks win... If there was ever a sequence pre made for bennyhill, it’s this one.

What a bleep show. Mike Breen is one of the best to ever do it and I still don’t think anyone could follow whatever the hell was happening in that sequence. And that’s no knock on Breen, in fact, credit to the dude for immediately being all over Monty Williams' reaction. Because Monty Williams wasn’t just furious in the moment, he would stay furious. And he would take that fury to the postgame podium.

Because in the chaos of that melee sequence at the end of the game, there was a collision near the sideline. Donte Divincenzo collided with Ausar Thompson and that ultimately led to the Josh Hart and-one that ultimately won the Knicks the game.

It was a missed call but according to Monty afterwards, it was more than just a missed call. It was, in his words, an ABOMINATION.

Look, I like Monty a lot. I respect Monty a lot. But that rant was hilarious and not in the good way. It was hilariously forced. Hilariously desperate. Hilariously ockwood.

And I get it, the guy IS desperate. This team does not get many chances to win. And for the record, he’s not even wrong here. It was a foul. It should have been called. You know how I know that? The Ref Show admitted it after the game.

"Upon postgame review, we determined that Thompson gets to the ball first and then was deprived of the opportunity to gain possession of the ball. Therefore, a loose ball foul should have been whistled on New York's Donte Divincenzo."

So there you have it, it was the wrong call and nobody is really debating that. But an abomination?? Really Monty? Did you see the rest of the play? I would say the whole sequence was an abomination. I would say your entire season is an abomination. But that call? Ehhhhhh

That call in that spot in the middle of that chaos... I think we all understand how the Ref Show blew that one. Let’s put it this way, the Ref Show has completely whiffed on WAY easier calls than that. If you go check out that sequence on the X right now, I guarantee you won't even notice the foul the first time you watch it. Abominations usually stand out.  And again, as much as I like and admire Monty Williams, he’s coaching one of the worst teams, so him calling anything as it relates to that team an abomination is an abomination itself: incredible word, abomination.  It just doesn’t apply here.  There is no such thing as an abomination on an eight win team, except the eight team itself: now that’s an abomination.

And if the team wants to know what more they can do, I would tell them to grab a defensive rebound. Or stop turning the ball over. And stop blaming the Ref Show for how crappy they are.

Detroit had like three separate opportunities to put that game away on that one play alone. And they blew it over and over again. And then they want to turn around and blame the refs?

Hey guys, no offense, but maybe this is why you only have 8 wins. Maybe this is why you’re 41 games under .500. You want to talk abomination… your record is the abomination. Your franchise is the abomination. Not that call.

Of course everyone hates the Ref Show, but I don’t think anyone is gonna rally behind Monty on this one being an abomination. Him calling anything besides his season an abomination is an abomination.

Again, Monty is a class act of a coach, but I don’t think this is going in the archives with the all-time Ref Show takedowns. Darko Rajakovic just did a way better job like six weeks ago and the dude hasn’t even coached 60 career games yet.
