LeCap's Legacy

On his big night, LeCap decided he wanted to go victim.

I really wanted to give LeCap his flowers today, and I still want to, and I’m going to, it’s just that as always, the dude makes it really, really hard. LeCap’s LeCappiness and LeBagginess just make it really hard to heap praise on the dude, even as he accomplishes things that are really easy to praise.

Scoring 40,000 points in an NBA career is so outrageous and so impressive it doesn’t even compute. You know how hard it is to make an accomplishment like that difficult to praise or hype? Do you know how much of a bag you have to be to make an accomplishment like that difficult to praise or hype?

The guy is absolutely amazing, and that’s still true, even at 39 years old. He’s of course now the only member of the 40k points club and I have a feeling that’s gonna be a really lonely club. Because it’s really hard to imagine anyone else joining him in that club any time soon, or any time ever.

40 thousand… again, doesn’t even seem real. Especially since the Lakers couldn’t even bother to win on his record setting night? And then had the nerve to sit around and blame LeAlltimescoringleader for it.

Yeah, geez AD, it must be so annoying to have a teammate who’s always breaking records. It must be so much work to make sure the team still loses even though there’s a GOAT constantly setting records on that team. AD, maybe you could score more than 17 at home against the defending champs on LeBron’s record-setting night… just a thought. But you’re right, way easier for Bron to just stop breaking records that will totally bring some more wins.

Speaking of those defending champs… the Nuggets are still terrifying. The Nuggets are still the team to beat. I already hyped the Celtics, and they deserve it, and they are on an all-time heater, they’re the hottest team in the league, it’s all true. But that Larry O is still Denver’s until someone comes and rips it from them. PERIOD. FULL STOP. SORRY HALF FAM.

I love the way those dudes think and compete. You know I’m a big fan of their head coach Michael Malone. I even love the way Jamal Murray talked about the win on LeBron’s big night.

He just said something so awesome so casually: “we just wanted to take the life out of the arena.” We just wanted to suck all hope AND LIFE out of the place. We just wanted to make every single person in that arena miserable on LeBron’s big night. That’s the mentality that makes Denver Denver. THEY’RE COLD BLOODED.

Meanwhile the mentality that makes LeBag LeBag was also on full display on Saturday. Because of course LeCap’s big accomplishment had to come with a fresh LeCap from LeCapper himself. Of course LeCap couldn’t play the hero without also playing the victim.

Huh? They put you up there with Big O and Michael and Kareem and Kobe before you even played a game… and your big takeaway is that everyone wanted you to fail? HUH? They put you on the cover of Sports Illustrated before you even graduated high school with the title THE CHOSEN ONE and your interpretation was that the whole world wanted you to fail?

Look, it’s incredible that he managed to meet and exceed those expectations. It’s more than incredible, it’s impossible. It’s the most impressive thing about this incredibly impressive dude. But pretty much everyone was rooting for the guy to meet those expectations. He was basically hailed as the savior of the city of Cleveland and the next MJ. VIRTUALLY everyone was behind this dude.  Fans and corporate America which gave him huge bags of cash.  Virtually everyone was behind him.

At least until he smacked the city of Cleveland and the rest of America with The Decision. Which was the beginning of LeBag’s career as a bag. But it’s not accurate to say everyone wanted to see him fail when he got into the league. It’s so inaccurate it’s actually the opposite of the truth.

Nowadays, though, people definitely want to see him fail. You know why? Because of comments like that. Because on his big night, he decided he wanted to go victim instead of just playing THE HUMBLE HERO. Because he says he wouldn’t wish that kind of pressure of expectation on any kid and yet he’s constantly raising the pressure and expectations on his own kid. People root against him because he can't stop bagging it up.

Once again, no human being has ever found it easier to dunk on every other living person. And no human being has also made it so easy for every living person to dunk right back on them. It really is the LeCap legacy. And that’s why Saturday night was such a perfectly LeBaggy night. In that it had both the historic greatness and historic bagginess that are coming to define this dude. Historic greatness, historic bagginess and the total and complete destruction of a historic and once proud movie franchise... That's the LeBron legacy.
