JIF came off much more like Johnny Saving Face.

I have to throw some credit to a pretty unlikely source today. I gotta throw some credit to one of the most polarizing and compelling figures in all of sports. A man fondly referred to by you clones, and famously once by Seth Rollins, as Johnny Idiot Face.

Yes Johnny Manziel is back in the headlines. Because Johnny Manziel paid a visit to Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay this week. A two-plus hour visit. And in that visit, he said a lot of things. And here’s the shocker… dude actually came off really well. I mean, accountability is his new currency; but at least he was accountable for some of the dumb things he’s done. Because done some of the dumbest things ever.  You know like throwing away his entire career and nearly his life.

Johnny Idiot Face came off much more like Johnny Saving Face. Johnny fffffff Football came off a lot more like Johnny ffffff Accountability.

I wasn’t really expecting to have that reaction, and you can make your own opinion since I’m about to play a bunch of it., but the dudes looks much better, sounds much better and is saying the right things: now is he saying them because that’s what people want to hear?  Or is saying them because he’s done the hard work on himself and wants to get right.  That’s up to you to decide.  But there’s no debating this: dude was dropping bombs; and some incredible bleep was coming out of his mouth:

And I’m gonna start with an all-time one-liner. Coming from Manziel’s claim that he dropped 40 pounds in the months after he was released by the browns.  Like how do you lose that much weight that quickly: easy, Johnny says: go on a diet: a Bolivian marching powder diet:

A strict diet of blow. Not a casual diet. Or a lenient diet. Or a party diet. Not even a steady diet. He was on a strict diet... Of blow. And that will for sure knock some weight off.

Just an all-time line. I’d almost go as far as to call it the perfect line: it’s that good.  But as amazing as that line is, it’s not really what actually interested me about this interview. What actually interested me was the parts where he sounds like he’s finally in a better place. And has finally figured some things out. And is finally ready to show some accountability and ownership for being on top of the world and setting it all on fire. Just listen to this answer.

Doesn’t that dude sound better? That dude doesn’t even sound like Johnny manziel. He sounds like an adult with his act together.  He actually sounds, how I put this: smart.   It’s almost kind of jarring.

And it wasn’t just that response, he went through and named all the people he regrets letting down. Which is one hell of a list. He throws out names like Joe Thomas and Mike Evans and Jake Matthews and LeBron and even Drake. Like this dude has an apology for everyone. And he does owe everyone an apology. But at least he’s coming through with that apology now.

Yes, sure, he’s getting attention for his newfound accountability. Like I said, on some level accountability, incredibly, is his new clout: and we can’t actually know that he has things under control like he says he does. But he sounds and looks like a different dude. Which is just a relief because we all know the path that he was on. In fact, people still might not quite understand how bad a situation it was.

I know this for sure, I know Jerruh Jones had no freaking idea how desperate the situation was. Because Jerruh wanted to draft Johnnuh to be his franchise qb and the future of the cowboys. Which we all know was a terrible idea. But it turns out it was an even worse idea than we thought. Just ask Johnny himself.

You catch what he was laying down right there? If he thought lighting himself, and his career on fire in Cleveland was bad, imagine the damage he would have done to himself and others in big d: as big a disaster as his career and life were in Cleveland, at least he’s still alive; that might not have been the case if he went to Dallas.

Now I’m not trying to paint Manziel out to be a saint all of a sudden, because we all know he’s far from that. But if the ownership is real, I appreciate it: and am pulling for the guy. But he wasn’t the only guy he dragged: he also had a little something for his former coach Kevin Sumlin: he put him on blast for telling him to lead a cleaner life: Johnny found that to be pretty rich and by pretty rich, I. Mean pretty hypocritical:

Pretty interesting: like my dude is not what he was: my dude lost his spark. And the reason he’s not what he was and lost his spark, is because he was doing some of the same bleep he told me to stop doing. Rich as hell hell that Johnny is telling someone else you’re not the alpha you used to because you’re not. Living right. Then again, who’s more qualified to say that Johnny manziel: and maybe he’s’ not wrong, where’s Sumlin now.  Who is he now: not what he used to be.

Again, I’m not saying Manziel is suddenly a heroic figure again. He's absolutely still a tragic figure. And a massive disappointment. But I’m just saying, he showed up well here. He actually, for the first time really, is showing some legit accountability. And he sounds and looks better. And that's a good thing.

Because this dude is still only 31. He's lived like three lifetimes, but he's only 31. And the path that he was on was only going to lead to a disaster. So hopefully he really is on a better path now, like he sounds like he is. Hopefully this Johnny ffffff Accountability thing sticks for Johnny ffffff Football. I need to see more and here more but I’m pulling for the dude.  It’s not too late.   Too late for a football career he pissed away, but not too late to live a great life and help people from making the mistakes he made.
